Job Description:

The Director, Syndicated Financing, Wholesale Finance contributes to the growth of BDC Syndicated Financing portfolio by sourcing, developing and recommending high quality transactions in accordance with the BDC credit policies and risk parameters. He/she conducts proper investigation and due diligence activities for Syndicated Financing loan proposals. The incumbent develops and manages account and influencer relationships in order to grow BDC Syndicated Financing assets while meeting BDC profitability objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Address issues such as compliance or material changes that arise as deals are being negotiated, structured and documented.
  • Keep abreast of general issues affecting the Syndicated Financing ecosystem including market conditions, industry practices and financial results for existing and potential clients.
  • Proactively identify and develop new business opportunities for Syndicated Financing in cash flow transactions, asset-based lending, commercial real estate, and renewable energy.
  • Maintain relationships with business centre personnel, colleagues and internal partners to foster good teamwork and the pursuit of common objectives.
  • Proactively build a key influencer network of chartered bank representatives, lawyers, and others to help BDC achieve its Corporate Financing objectives and foster deal sharing opportunities.
  • Manage the assigned credit portfolio of Syndicated Financing accounts identifying and escalating any material risk issues to ensure the risk rating remains accurate at all times.
  • Plan and conduct activities that promote the Syndicated Financing Group’s capabilities to its financial partners to generate new business development.
  • Conduct proper investigation and due diligence activities for complex loan proposals including completing relevant analysis and credit documentation while ensuring the risk profile is within the parameters of accepted credit practices and BDC policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement a customer relationship retention/growing strategy to build and manage a long-term Syndicated Financing portfolio with new and existing clients.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong Canadian GAAP and IFRS knowledge
  • Analytical business sense and strategic thinking
  • MBA and/or CFA designation and/or relevant professional designation is preferable
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Highly organized and proactive
  • More than 10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong mediation and communication skills to relay messages across departments and ability to manage interaction with executives and employees
  • Bachelor in Commerce or Finance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
