Job Description:

The Fire Protection Engineer should be capable of working independently with limited supervision to complete small and large project design requirements. The candidate is responsible for leading projects for new facilities and renovation, modernization, and repurposing of existing buildings. Candidate must be well organized, able to demonstrate critical thinking, quickly recognize issues, and be part of the solution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files
  • Assist with mentoring of junior staff
  • Take pride in and ownership of your work
  • Be proficient in all aspects of mechanical systems design for projects of all sizes
  • Coordinate fire protection systems with other disciplines
  • Act as an adviser and review correspondence prepared by junior project team members
  • Concisely express complex system solutions in very early design phases
  • Evaluate, select, apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and judgement based on experience to design fire protection systems in buildings
  • Attend project meetings, both internal and with clients
  • Be self-motivated with strong work ethic
  • Make major design decisions and recommendations with little input from senior staff
  • Assist in project quality control review

Job Requirements:

  • Successfully performed the role of lead engineer on various projects
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience with U.S. Department of Defense agency requirements (UFCs, SpecsIntact, etc.)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Full understanding and ability to complete and coordinate project design assignments with the ability to review team member’s work for quality and recognition of training requirements
  • Experience with building fire protection systems including but not limited to sprinkler, fire alarm, life safety, and mass notification systems
  • Experience with Design-Build projects
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and eight (8) years of relevant experience, which includes experience and skills in fire protection systems design for buildings
